Highs

  • Controls
  • Acceleration with the turbo four-cylinder
  • Ride and fuel economy with the hybrid version

Lows

  • Ride with the turbo version
  • Turbo engine’s dual-clutch transmission
  • Hesitation off the line with the hybrid
  • Annoying split-use audio/climate control panel

Best Version to Get

Two aspects must be considered before deciding which Sorento is right for you. The first is which seating configuration you’d like: the lower LX and S trims come in a seven-seat configuration with a traditional second-row bench seat that fits three people, while the EX and up come in a six-seater layout with second-row captain’s chairs. The second consideration is the powertrain: EX trims and up have a significantly more powerful and quieter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and they also come with the convenience of adaptive cruise control.

We think the best version is the hybrid because it eliminates the low-speed vibration, rides better, and gets better fuel economy. The Hybrid comes either as an EX or SX-Prestige. The EX comes well equipped and has smaller 17-inch wheels that yield a more comfortable ride.
